1. STEAM BATH
A very gentle and pleasant home remedy to clean plugged ears is a steam bath with chamomile for at least ten minutes.
To do this, take a tablespoon of chamomile (chamomile tea will work, as long as it’s 100% chamomile) or eucalyptus and pour it into a pot with two liters of hot water, if you use less water, it cools faster. Cover your head with a towel and keep your ear open.
The steam loosens the dried ear wax, cleanses the ear canal, and protects against bacteria.
After the steam bath, you can rinse your ear with lukewarm water, and use a wet washcloth to cleanse your ear.
If you have two clogged ears, you should use the steam bath first and rinse one ear then the second ear. Try to work quickly, to prevent the ear wax from drying again during that time.
2. SALTWATER
Another gentle method of clearing a plugged ear is to clean it with saltwater. You can also use saltwater on babies and young children to remove accumulated ear wax.
Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in 100 ml of warm water. Lie on your side and pour a few drops into the clogged ear with a pipette or dropper. Let it work for 10-15 minutes, during which time you can cover the ear with a cotton ball. Then lie on the other side so that all the liquid comes out and finally rinse with warm water
3. Using OIL
Oil can also help relieve plugged ears by dissolving fats. Almond oil is the best but it also works with olive oil.
Use high-quality organic oils so that no harmful substances enter the ear. All you need is a few drops.
Put a few drops of oil (ideally at body temperature) in the affected ear. Let it act for at least five minutes. If you cover the ear with cotton, you can let it act overnight. Then rinse the ear well with warm water.
4. Using Ear wax Drops, or a natural alternative.
As discussed previously, a few drops of hydrogen peroxide or a hydrogen peroxide drop (like Debrox) can be an effective way to remove stubborn ear wax. Then it can be flushed out of the ear with lukewarm water, or wiped away with a soft washcloth.
Ear candles are not advised
Most ENT doctors say ear candling isn’t safe and can cause serious injuries to your ear and hearing. The hot wax and ash may burn your face, ears and eyes. Ear candling could make the earwax build up worse, by making the ear canal feel itchy and forcing the softer wax to go further towards the ear canal. Using ear candles, can encourage someone to want to scratch the inside of their ears, forcing the wax further towards the ear drum. Experts do not recommend using ear candles.
DO NOT USE COTTON SWABS OR Q-TIPS
Ear wax protects against the ingress of bacteria and pulls dirt out of the ear. Wax contributes to ear health and is part of its self-cleaning process. The Most Common way ear wax plugs form is by a common mistake is trying to clean your ears with cotton swabs. All this does is prevent the wax from coming out and push it back in towards the eardrum, where the plug is formed.
The only correct way to use a cotton swab is to clean only the visible part of the ear canal. Putting anything in your ear is not advisable and can be dangerous.
